Sweden’s Total Defence Increasing NATO Host Nation Support Capabilities
From December 9-13, NATO’s premier education facility NATO School Oberammergau held a Host Nation Support training in Stockholm.
The Host Nation Support Course (HNS) hosted by MSB and the Swedish Armed Forces was the first of its kind held in Sweden. It is a key step in educating the Swedish civil defence sector on NATO HNS policy and doctrine to better support NATO military planning and operations, and is part of strengthening cooperation between Swedish civil defence actors and the Armed Forces.
“Sweden’s Civil Defence must not only support Swedish military operations, but our NATO Allies coming to Sweden during a crisis or war. It must not only protect our civilian population, but receive those displaced by war within Sweden and abroad,” said MSB Director General Mikael Frisell. “Building total defence is a complex task, requiring ever closer cooperation between civil society, government agencies, regional and the Armed Forces. Together, we make Sweden and NATO stronger.”
