Download or order the brochure In case of crisis or war

The brochure “In case of crisis or war” provides advice on how to prepare yourself and what you should do in the event of crisis or war. Here you can download or order a version in English.

The state of the world has worsened drastically in recent years. War is being waged in our vicinity. Extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common. Terror threats, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns are being used to undermine and influence us. Sweden has even joined the defence alliance NATO. That is why MSB has produced the brochure “In case of crisis or war”. To resist these threats, we must stand united and take responsibility for our country. If we are attacked, everyone must help defend Sweden’s independence and our democracy. We build resilience every day – together. You are part of Sweden’s overall emergency preparedness.

Why is MSB sending out a new brochure?

War is being waged in our corner of the worl and the security situation is the most serious since the Second World War. Terrorist threats, cyber attacks and misleading information are being used to harm and influence us. An armed attack against Sweden cannot be ruled out. The realisation of this seriousness needs to reach more people. This is why the government commissioned MSB last winter to produce a new version of the brochure In case of crisis or war. The brochure advises the population on how they can prepare - in the event of a crisis or war - to increase the population's ability, resilience and willingness to defend themselves. A resilient population is an important part of Swedish total defence.

Sweden has a tradition of communicating with its population about crisis and war. This is the fifth version of the brochure sent out to the Swedish public. Previous brochures have been sent out in 1943, 1952, 1961 and 2018. The first three brochures were entitled If war comes.

In Sweden, we have a total defence obligation, which means that most people have an obligation to contribute in the event of danger of war or war. The Riksdag and the government want everyone to be able to meet their most basic needs in the event of a crisis or war for at least a week without support from society. This is necessary because society's resources are not enough for everyone at the same time, but must go to those with the greatest needs. Fundamentally, we all have a responsibility for our own lives and our own safety - and to help each other as best we can.
