RescEU Aerial Forest Fire Fighting capacities in Sweden
Sweden is one of the countries commissioned to host aerial forest fire fighting capacities for the European Union within the framework of rescEU. The currently (2024) four aircraft contribute to the continued development of common European preparedness.
The four aircraft of the model AT-802F FireBoss are part of the efforts by the EU to strengthen the EU response to wildfires, by financing the stand-by availability of a rescEU firefighting fleet. They are efficient means in combatting wildfires, and are available for deployments outside of Sweden 24/7 during the wildfire season (European summer).
The aircraft have been part of the rescEU fleet since 2020, and have since been deployed on six international operations. Currently, 2 aircraft are commissioned to serve in the fleet until 2025, and 2 aircraft have served on an annual basis during 2024.
The projects of hosting the aircraft are managed by MSB, in partnership with a procured flight operator.
